  • Maintain clear communication to the community through a monthly newsletter from the Board

  • Utilize data in budget planning and presentations to ensure public funds are allocated responsibly with a focus on serving students and promoting student learning

  • Promote quality education by enhancing facilities, promoting professional development for faculty, increasing student support services, build stronger partnerships with community groups, high schools, and universities

  • Promote a strong student and faculty voice through effective participatory governance

  • Build a culture of respect at the board level that demonstrates its value of students, faculty, staff, and the community

  • Taught in the CCC and CSU systems for twenty years and bring a deep understanding of issues that exist in providing educational opportunities for all students

  • Served on Statewide Academic Senate (ASCCC) committees and understand the complex triangular relationship between state mandates, system initiatives and local implementation

  • Actively served as VP of my local Academic Senate and understand participatory governance processes, budget, and enrollment management issues

  • Served on several accreditation team visits and understand the role of governing boards

  • Been elected Commissioner on the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC)

  • Advocated vigorously for the Arts and for Civic and Global Citizenship at the local and state levels

  • Implemented and led Global Citizenship efforts at West Valley College for seven years

  • Presented on Global Citizenship and Civic Engagement across California to Boards, presidents, chancellors, and faculty leadership

  • Created global pathways/certificates between WVC and SJSU
